Upcoming & Ongoing Art in Luzern – April Highlights

April in and around Lucerne unfolds as one of those months where the art world feels especially alive—dense with openings, conversations, and the kind of overlapping events that make you wish you could be in three places at once.

This year, the month began a little ahead of schedule—at least for those of us trying to keep up. Early April saw the opening at Factory Luzern with the exhibition “Icons – Pictorial Words” by Carmen Ibira and Simi Vogu. The show set a strong tone: visually driven, conceptually layered, and rooted in the interplay between image and meaning. It felt like a fitting kickoff to a month that would continue in much the same spirit—thoughtful, energetic, and collaborative.

The following week picked up pace quickly. On April 9th, B74 Luzern opened “Save Your Tears”, a group exhibition bringing together Rachel Lumsden, Achim Schroeteler, Miranda Fierz, Amalia Maciuca, and Edward Wright. The show carried a strong emotional undercurrent, weaving together distinct practices into a cohesive dialogue. Just days later, on April 16th, the exhibition suggests a guided group tour led by Amalia Maciuca.

In between, on April 11th, the rhythm of the region expanded beyond Lucerne itself. The 13er Kunsttreff in Sarnen provided a welcome change of scene. Participating in this gathering alongside Timo Vogel’s exhibition highlighted the importance of smaller, interconnected art communities around Central Switzerland—spaces where exchange feels immediate and grounded.

Looking ahead, the calendar remains just as full. On April 19th, anticipation builds for the opening at Entlebucherhaus with the exhibition “Das Leben ist Bunt”. The title alone promises vibrancy, and there’s a shared sense of curiosity about how that theme will unfold across the works.

And then comes April 23rd and 24th— @marytwo.one Gallery and @171_gallery Gallery are hosting openings ... pray for my feet this month, and enjoy Luzern Art spaces.

What stands out this April is not just the number of events, but the feeling of increasing involvement—of being drawn deeper into the fabric of the art world here. Invitations arrive, conversations continue beyond openings, and familiar faces reappear across different spaces. There’s a growing sense of belonging within this network of artists, curators, and audiences.

In the end, April isn’t just busy—it’s affirming. To move through these exhibitions and gatherings in Lucerne and its surroundings is to be reminded that this art scene, though intimate, is remarkably dynamic. And to be part of it, even in small ways, feels both energising and meaningful.
